He medical literature of such an interaction is interesting. I have certainly described this in detail to several doctors. Having investigated the reaction myself, I even suggested that it sounded like my reaction fit the description for serotonin syndrome. The doctors were disinterested in my opinion. One suggested a bi-polar reaction was more likely. Right. First one of my life, waking me up in the middle of the night, coincidental with combining 2 anti-depressants, and with symptoms which sound a lot more like serotonin syndrome than a manic episode. Doctors should give their patients a little more credit for their intelligence. Perhaps a lot more things would be being reported in the medical literature if they did. By the way, I was also taking estrogen supplements at the time on my doctor's recommendation. I have since read that estrogen supplements can increase the effect of many anti-depressants. Another factor to consider in the interaction. Thanks for your information. Mickey Mickey, the reaction you've described happened to me, too!! it happened with Prozac (twice) and Seroxat. that very real feeling as if you're about to burst, etc. i immediately discontinued the med in each case. and each time the doctors were angry with me for it, but they wouldn't believe what it had felt like. doh! it's not just Hypericum that can increase the serotonin levels in depressed people, i was also at times taking homeopathic remedies, etc. because each time i felt surprisingly fine after aprubt discontinuation of the med, something i shouldn't have done, if i hadn't got a "backup"
